Working as an artist, designer and photographer, my work has focussed on the medieval and prehistoric visual culture of Britain and Ireland, and in particular elements of medieval Welsh literary tradition and decorative arts. Having trained at Newport School of Art in the 1990s, I began to explore ways of interpreting medieval tales from the mabinogi, Arthurian legends and the lives of the saints through digital imaging and installation. My engagement with the University of Wales research projects 'The Visual Culture of Wales'; and 'Imaging the Bible in Wales'; developed my interest in the revival of medieval traditions and styles in Wales and I understand my work as a contemporary manifestation of this ongoing process. www.martincrampin.co.uk
